Olympus Tech Support: A Great Experience

leave a comment »

A week ago or so, a problem cropped up with the auto-focus on our Olympus E-420 DSLR. One of the three focus targets was behaving badly and had to be turned off for the camera to function. I did a web search on the problem and came up with a number of suggestions and options for fixing the problem all of which involved getting into the guts of the camera.

Before attempting what was called in one post “major surgery” on the camera, I thought I should get a second opinion from Olympus.  Being a Sunday, there was no available phone support, so I sent an e-mail query.  At ten o’clock Monday morning, I got a call from Jim at Olympus Tech Support– located in the United States (Pennsylvania), no less — who helped me out with some suggestions for cleaning the auto focus sensor along with some great tips which were not anywhere on the web.  He also took time to answer some of my off-topic questions on Olympus camera models.  But best of all, Jim’s recommendations worked.

The experience with Olympus Tech Support is without a doubt one of the best I have ever had and is to be lauded.

Thank you very much Olympus and Jim.
