Artist Beware…

This blog has been dark for a while, because of issues I had at the beginning of the year with WordPress and YouTube.

First, YouTube wacked me with a copyright strike courtesy of Evergreen Social Media Associates:

Fair enough.  Take the video down……but the account restrictions and all the YouTube huffing & puffing about all the bad that they could and just might rain down upon my channel gave me pause.

Then, WordPress sent me the following “Happy New Year” greeting to me:

OO150105 -- Happy New Year from Word Press - 2

No warning.  No explanation.  No response to my inquiries. Just a censorship death sentence for my blog.

Then, just as suddenly as it was suspended, my Owl Works blogs reappeared — again with no warning, explanation or response to my inquiries.  I’ve since started the process of moving it to my own hosting platform — another nightmare for another blog post.  Not sure if I’ll move this one, too, but rest assured it is backed up in the event that becomes necessary.

I had nodded at repeated warnings to content creators to not get too dependent upon internet gargantuans like WordPress, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc., for content hosting and marketing.  That lesson has been brought home…hard.

Be forewarned:  Sergey Brin, Mark Zuckerberg, Tim Cook and their ilk giveth, and they also taketh away.
